Digital Projects

In social studies education we have to make a choice. Do we force students to spend time memorizing facts that can easily be found on the Internet or do we spend time teaching students how to find and use information? I believe it is important for you to learn how to go about finding information and putting it into a format that others can use and possibly benefit from. It is also very important that you learn how to use different "social media" tools which are also known as Web 2.0 tools.

Digital Projects will consist of the following parts:
  • Create hyperlinks to five different websites that pertain to your topic. Pick good websites, not just the first ones you come across. (10pts)
  • Write a critical summary of each website. Make sure you talk about what is good and bad about each site. Must be at least 5 sentences in length. (25pts)
  • Write a THREE paragraph essay about what you learned about your topic. The first paragraph needs to be an introduction to your topic. The second paragraph will include the bulk of your information. The final paragraph will be your conclusion. These paragraphs must be written in first person so there is no temptation to plagiarize. (If you still do not know what plagiarizing is call me and I will explain it.) (30pts)
  • You need to find 5 pictures that pertain to your topic. Make a VoiceThread using these images. See Step 4 so you know what I want with each picture. Create a slide at the end that cites the source for each picture.(25pts)
